Welcome West 87th Street Park Block Association
Representing residents of 87th Street between Central Park West and Columbus Avenue, this organization was incorporated as a New York State nonprofit in 1956. It brings a longstanding commitment to block beautification, neighborhood security, and effective rat mitigation. We are delighted to have this engaged group join us and look forward to working together to maintain a clean, safe, and vibrant community.

In collaboration with City Council Member Gale Brewer, the UWS Coalition hosted a workshop on April 30 for neighbors interested in starting a block association. The event drew a full audience at the Goddard Riverside Community Center, where UWS Coalition President Steve Anderson introduced ten block associations that shared the wide range of projects they undertake—from replanting and maintaining tree beds to organizing “Coffee at the Curb,” running neighborhood flea markets, addressing public safety concerns, and tackling rat infestations.
In collaboration with City Council Member Gale Brewer, the UWS Coalition hosted a workshop on April 30 for neighbors interested in starting a block association. Attorney Mark Diller briefed the crowd with basic legal guidance on starting a group and José Dobles of Citizens NYC advised on the availability of seed funding. The group was joined by State Senator Erik Bottcher, Community Board 7 Chair Alex Bell, and Kiara Royer, Director of Special Events, from the office of Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal.

Spring and Summer Street Fairs are Underway
The Coalition kicked off the season on May 3 with an outreach table on Broadway that attracted many interested neighbors. Members from the West 75th, 79th, 81st, and 83rd Street block associations braved the chilly day. Look for our table at the next fair on Sunday, June 14 on Amsterdam Avenue from West 79th to 86th Streets.
