Graffiti can appear on any block, leaving building facades, storefronts, and other public-facing surfaces looking neglected. But with the right supplies, a little know-how, and neighbors willing to pitch in, graffiti can often be removed—and the pride of a block restored.
For help with graffiti removal, Upper West Side residents can turn to Tara Bhrushundi. Her work with the West 95th Street Block Association offers a great example of how neighbors came together to tackle graffiti. Through Tara’s guidance and hands-on training, residents learned how to identify the right supplies, use effective graffiti removal techniques, and work together to restore the appearance of their block. Read more about it in the Summer 2025 issue of the Coalition’s newsletter.
Tara has also worked with City Council Member Gale Brewer’s office, where summer interns cleaned over 40 mailboxes using Tara’s expert guidance. Learn more about this project in this Facebook video produced by Brewer’s office.
Whether your block is dealing with a recent tag or you would like to prepare neighbors to respond when graffiti appears, a training session is an opportunity to learn, work together, and make a visible difference in your community.
